Non-emergency Medical Transport Service
Wayne X-Press provides NON-EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION (NEMT) service to residents of Wayne County. This service is for people qualified for Medicaid benefits who do not have transportation to and from medical appointments. Passengers that need to use NEMT services but do not qualify for Medicaid benefits can schedule an appointment based on a sliding fee scale. This sliding fee scale is based on total monthly household income.
NEMT is for medical transportation only. Wayne X-Press cannot transport passengers to and from stores, pharmacies, or restaurants while on NEMT services. Wayne X-Press will allow one (1) individual to accompany the patient to and from the doctor’s office at no additional charge.
Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times. Parents/Guardians cannot leave children unattended on the bus.
Guidelines for NEMT Services
Be Ready to Go at the Scheduled Time
Please be ready to go two (2) hours before your scheduled appointment time. Wayne X-Press makes every effort to arrive as close to your scheduled appointment time as possible. This two (2) hour window will be considered your scheduled pick-up time.
Wayne X-Press is a county wide service. Scheduled pick-up times can vary due to: your locations, weather conditions, road conditions, ridership and unforeseen mechanical issues.
Wayne X-Press Drivers will wait up to five (5) minutes for a passenger. Any passenger, who is not at their scheduled pick-up point and ready to go by that time, will be considered a no-show, and the driver will leave to pick up other riders. The driver will not return for a second attempt.
The only exception will be passengers who have been detained during a medical appointment. If you know that you will be detained during a medical appointment, please call Wayne X-Press at (304) 429-0070 as soon as possible. Then, when you are ready to leave your medical appointment, call Wayne X-Press and we will dispatch the next available vehicle to pick you up.
If you are unable to make your scheduled ride for any reason, please call the office at (304) 429-0070 no later than 4:00 pm the day before to cancel your ride. Cancellations made after two (2) hours before the scheduled trip will be considered a no show. Wayne X-Press drivers cannot make schedule changes for you.
A no-show occurs when:
- You fail to show up for your scheduled trip.
- You fail to cancel two hours before your scheduled trip.
- You are not ready within five (5) minutes of the driver’s arrival during the pick-up window.
If you are a no-show for your “going” trip, your return trip is automatically canceled. Wayne X-Press may reinstate the return ride if you call within a reasonable time to say that you will need the return trip.
A passenger who has three (3) no-shows within a (6) six-month period will be suspended from the service for 90 days. After the second (2) no-show, Wayne X-Press will send you a warning letter. If you are suspended, Wayne X-Press will notify you by mail of the date on which the suspension will begin. The date for the beginning of the suspension of service will be no less than ten (10) days from the date the letter is sent. The letter will indicate the times and dates of the no-shows that have occurred. Also included will be the date that service is reinstated on.
